Venice departure
I summed up our trip taken last summer to Portoroz, Slovenia & Venice, Italy on the safeflyer.hu web site – as a teaser to the up & coming flying season of this year.

On the 16th Feburary, the Budapest New Technology Meetup celebrated its 5th birthday. When starting the meeting 5 years ago, I wouldn’t have thought that it would last so long. Heck, I wouldn’t even think that we’d have 5 lectures each month for the duration of a single year – after all, who could list 60 interesting topics from almost as many interesting people at any one time? But to prove us wrong, we’ve had over 300 lectures already during all these years.
But, it seems the ‘Meetup is still going strong here in Budapest, and has been a source of inspiration for a lot of other similar events, such as the SciFi Meetup, the OFF (Frontend) Meetup, the JavaScript Meetup, Design Meetup and the Science Meetup – just to name a few.
Now only if the meetup.com guys could migrate their site to use UTF-8, and handle all Hungarian characters properly…
Doing a little bit of coding, to enable proper usage of online audio / radio telephony while playing the X-Plane flight simulator on the VATSIM flight simulator network. Previously I implemented an ALSA-based version of the same XSquawkBox Plugin, but that seemed to be inadequate. Now I have a beta version of the same pluign, using PulseAudio.

Golden Gate Bridge tip
I summed up my experiences on safeflyer.hu about converting a Hungarian Private Pilot License to a US FAA PPL, and on the differences between flying in Hungary vs. flying in the US. This was all done while I took to the skies in California, including the San Francisco Bay Area & then to the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada.
Darioush glasses
We had a nice wine tasting afternoon today, visiting Darioush, Regusci, Cliff Lede & St. Supéry, closing with a dinner at the Farm, at Carneros Inn – simply delicious. Plenty of other wineries to go to next time though…
